I have decided to host a week long intensive for current riders or riders bringing in their own horse. Unlike our summer camp these sessions will be 45 minute private lessons held during the day. I will have 3-6 spots pre day. Each rider will have to come with a goal. We will then work through breaking the goal down into smaller pieces and student will be given at home exercises to do. If rider brings a phone or tablet we will connect it to my Pivo pod and rider will be able to have video. I will provide a small journal or folder with places to write down homework and exercises.
Cost will be $75 pre ride. July 10-13 and July 17-20 9 am to 1 pm
Example 1:
Student wants to canter a jumping course
evaluation: Can student canter a lap around the arena?
Can student canter a 20 meter circle?
Can student canter over a single pole?
Can student canter over two poles at a related distance?
Can we raise the poles off the ground and keep the same things true?
Homework might look like:
watching videos of recommend riders doing jumping rounds to see rider position and watch how hand and legs are used
exercises to strengthen legs and improve balance
exercises to improve posture
journaling how the ride went including positive and negative things (we aren’t making mistakes we have nothing to learn from)
Example 2:
My last dressage test I only scored a 59. I want to score a 63.
Evaluation:
Review score card with instructor to find lowest marks.
My lowest marks were left 20 meter circle to large and free walk not shown. My collected marks rider position 5.5 and geometry 5.5.
Horse and rider will rider will 20 meter circle learn to focus on counting steps in each quarter and using outside leg and rein to block circle getting to large.
Rider will focus on developing a solid center seat in the saddle so horse can not move rider out of position to make circle larger.
Free walk will be practice with purpose so rider learns not just throw the reins away and hope the horse stretches or horse is tense and we need work on swing through back at the walk.
